SANTORINI
Santorini
Crescent-shaped Santorini, or Thira as is its ancient Greek name, is a precious gem of the Aegean, in the southernmost part of Cyclades, a place of wild beauty and an eternal symbol of rebirth from the ashes. The island of Santorini is a place of great contrasts that enchants the visitor. It has taken its current shape, from the volcano located there and the massive explosion that occurred thousands of years ago.
Fira and the villages
Fira is the picturesque capital of the island; perched high up on the edge of the Caldera, it looks like a marvellous painting. Fira is the center of the island’s commercial, artistic and social life, which explodes during the summer months. Museums with priceless exhibits, historic churches and monuments, high end art galleries, restaurants and clubs, create a unique, authentic blend.
Fira, together with Oia, Imerovígli and Firostefáni located high above on a cliff, make up the so-called Caldera’s eyebrow, the balcony of Santorini, which offers an amazing view of the volcano.
Other famous smaller villages are Akrotíri and Messa Vouno, with their famous archaeological sites, Pyrgos, Karterades, Emporio, Ammoudi, Períssa, Perívolos, Megalohóri, Kamári, Messariá and Monólithos. Some of the villages are cosmopolitan, some others peaceful and they are surrounded by vast vineyards, whitewashed cliff-top towns and castles with amazing views over the Aegean.
Santorini’s beaches: White Beach - Red Beach - Υialos Beach
White Beach which can be reached from the neighboring Red Beach, or by boat. The black beach Υialos, maybe difficult to reach but it is worth the effort, because the stunning view of the caldera will reward you. Another famous beach of Santorini is Coloumpos in which lies the undersea crater and is considered the Aegean’s natural spa. Black sand, white rocks.

The cherry tomatoes of Santorini, fava and the white eggplant are only few of the delicious vegetables, while the famous volcanic vineyards have the magic touch of god Dionysus. Some of these products have been labeled as PDO products (Protected Designation of Origin) by the European Union and are known for their uniqueness, since they cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
